Unveiled Truth (Transfiguration B Epistle)

Text: 2 Cor. 3:12–13 (14–18); 4:1–6 for Transfiguration Sunday, Lectionary Series B

OBJECTIVES

Participants will:

Rejoice in the unveiled truth of the Gospel.
Strive to daily reflect that glory of God in their lives.
Live boldly in the hope that is Christ Jesus.

MATERIALS NEEDED

Bible

GROUP GUIDELINES

Divide into groups of six people. Choose as leader the tallest person in the group. The leader’s job is to keep the group moving through the material, giving everyone an opportunity to share.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

Have each participant tell a half truth about themselves, then have the other members of the group guess which half of the statement is true and which half is not.
Have each participant complete this statement:
1. Sometimes I cover up part of the truth because. . .
2. When the whole truth is revealed I feel. . .

LOOKING AT GOD’S WORD

Have a volunteer read 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:6.
Why did Moses place a veil over his face? (verse 13)
Read Mark 9:2-9. Share with each other how you would have felt if you were one of the disciples with Jesus on the mountain and witnessed the Transfiguration.
2 Corinthians 4:2 tells us that we do not use deception nor do we distort the Word of God. What would distorting the Word and deception in the presentation of the Word do to the message of Jesus Christ?

REINFORCING WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNED

How does knowing the unveiled truth help you to be bold in your calling as a Christian?
Discuss what some of the costs may be when the truth of the Gospel is proclaimed and lived? Does proclaiming the Gospel in our lives always go well, or is the road sometimes not smooth?
What are some of the ways you can help each other not to lose hope or become discouraged in life?

CLOSING

Close with prayer thanking God for revealing the truth of the Good News to us and asking for His continued strength in our lives.
