Confirmation 2.0: Ten Commandments Bible Study Series

As many of our congregations are celebrating Confirmation, we are reminded of the importance of learning the six chief parts of the Lutheran Catechism. The material there is good for all ages. But, the post-Confirmation teen years may be ones where approaching catechesis may be more difficult. Teens want to know how this material applies to their lives today. They want to dig deeper than perhaps they did in Confirmation.

This three-part Bible study is part of a series that take Catechism content and present it for high school students.

These studies focus on the 10 Commandments, but not by going through each individually. Instead, in the first study, students will locate the Ten Commandments within the context of God’s great rescue of His people.

In the second study, youth will trace the first part of Jesus’ summary of the commandments from Holy Week back to the time of Moses. This will show how Jesus fulfills the law perfectly by loving God with all His heart, soul, mind, and strength.

In the last session, youth will think about God’s command to love others through the story of the Good Samaritan, and relate the story to Christ’s love and mercy for them.

This set of studies helps youth to think of the Ten Commandments in relationship to all God’s Law for us and His grace in Jesus Christ. These are set to help compliment and expand on what young people may learn in Confirmation instruction.
