Devotion: Trust

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
 and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
 and he will make your paths straight.
 (Proverbs 3:5-6)

We used to play this game where you had someone stand right behind you and when both of you were ready you would fall straight back and they would catch you. The focus of this game was to build trust. Even with that in mind, it was still difficult for me. It didn’t matter that I knew the person behind me was going to catch me during my fall. It was that brief millisecond of free-fall that I was terrified to experience. For me, it was a lack of trust.

Moving that thought to our day to day lives, think about the wide variety of decisions that we are faced with in which we have to determine if we are going to trust the love, truth and promises of our Lord and Savior. How often do the fears, uncertainties and uncomfortable realities of life seem to win? How often do we lose sight of the victory that has been won through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ when it comes to the decisions that we make?

Take the opportunity today to lay your fears before God. Let His peace and reassurance wash over you. Then, go forward with confidence in your life. Hold on to the fact that if the God of the universe is in control–yes that same God who calls you His child–and there is nothing too big for Him, then you can trust Him!

All of Your promises are true Lord. Help me to never forget that fact. Also help me to live a life that is a representation of the trust that I have in You. I love You and thank You most precious Lord. Amen.
