Skit: By Your Side

Parts:
Teen Girl
Jesus

(Girl walks into room with Jesus following; she puts backpack down)

Girl- (to Jesus) Look, it’s not that I don’t appreciate having you around; I do! I’m just wondering, is it really necessary? I mean, every class, even PE? Seriously? Plus lunch and then practice, too? I’m not saying I mind; it just seems a little excessive, that’s all.

Jesus- I’ll never leave you.

Girl- Yeah, I know and that’s great, it really is. It’s just that I need my space, you know? I need some time to do my own thing. Maybe you could just let me go every now and then?

Jesus- I’ll never let go.

(Girl’s cell phone rings)

Girl- Yeah, I get the idea. (Answers phone) Hi! Yeah, my parents said I can go. (Pause) I was surprised too… (Turning away from Jesus and speaking more softly) but I didn’t exactly tell them ALL the details. (Pause) So, it’s after the game, right, at his house? (Pause) Okay, I’ll come get ready at your place and we can go to the game together, and I can stay over tonight, right? (Pause) Okay, I’ll be there soon. Bye.

Girl- (putting clothes in a bag- talking to Jesus) – So, I’ll be back tomorrow sometime. You can hang out with my parents tonight. I think they’d like that.

(Girl starts to leave, Jesus starts to follow)

Girl- Hold on, where do you think you’re going?

Jesus- I’ll never leave you or forsake you.

Girl- You’re not forsaking me. I just think it’d be better for both of us if you stayed here tonight.

(Girl starts to leave again- Jesus follows)

Girl- You know, Sunday is only two days away. We can spend the whole day together. It’ll be great; but I need this time to myself.

(Girl starts to leave again- Jesus follows)

Girl- (getting more frustrated) I don’t think you understand. I don’t NEED you to come. I don’t WANT you to come!

(Girl starts to leave- Jesus follows)

Girl– (more frustrated) I’m sorry, but I need you to just stay (nail one hand) here (nail the other so that Jesus’ hands are outstretched as though He’s on the cross). The rest is yours; but this part of my life…is mine.

(Girl takes bag and walks out; Jesus is standing with arms outstretched as though on a cross. After she exits, He puts His arms down and follows her)
