Advent Gospel Dramas

These dramas are intended for use in the worship service either prior to or following the reading of the Sunday Gospel. Through parable, fantasy or direct reference, this series is a way to capture the obvious and the subtle themes in the Gospels for Advent through Epiphany (Lectionary Series B).

Sleeper, Awake

Stay awake and watch for Christ. You can miss Good News in familiar places from familiar people. Based on Mark 13:33-3.

Ready or Not

This drama is a parable on readiness for a visit from Jesus Christ. Such a visit calls for an honest confrontation with who we are, why Christ is coming, the inside-out cleaning of repentance. Based on Mark 1:1-8.

Your Name in Lights

Like John, we are not the Light, but bear witness to the Light. There is one greater than we. Based on John 1:6-8, 19-28.

Are You Sure You Can Be Sure?

Being caught up in the plan of God means trusting even in the face of dancing doubts. It calls for sensing God’s power despite my weakness. Based on Luke 1:26-38.

Hark the Glad Sound

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The Word that says we are gifted people. The Word that reconciles. The Word that comes as a baby boy, “full of grace and truth.” Based on Luke 2:1-20 and John 1:1-18.

Too Bad About Simeon

Some quiet, old folks in nursing homes may have a secret, inner joy we cannot always see. The Church is in nursing homes, too. Based on Luke 2:25-3.

Star Struck

The Epiphany star just may rest over our church…of all places. Based on Matthew 2:1-12.
