Devotion: God’s Love is…Clear!

I love going on walks. It could be in the heat of the summer or during the cold winter. It gives me time to think, to breathe in the fresh air and to just enjoy the present. I like walking especially, because it clears my mind and allows me to think about what I am going to write about next, whether in a devotion or Bible study or just because I desire to write.

One night I was walking and I looked up into the sky and it was clear, the clearest I have ever seen it in a long time!  At that point it made sense about what I was going to write in this devotion: GOD’S LOVE IS CLEAR!

If you want a metaphor, you could say that the clouds represent our sin…. The rain that pours out of those clouds often makes you feel gloomy. Well, so does sin! We constantly make mistakes and lie and gossip and when we do it, we are covered by the shadows of our sin! But God, rich in grace and mercy, clears the clouds out of our lives and his LOVE is as clear as the morning sky! There is nothing confusing about Jesus Christ, he came down to this earth and died for the gloom of the world. But we can praise God that our Savior rose again!

I love the passage in Luke when the baby Jesus is brought to the temple and Simeon sings his song:

“Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your Word; for my eyes have seen the salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” Luke 2:29-32

Everything and especially the LOVE of God have become clear through CHRIST JESUS! I pray that in the midst of the gloom we face in our lives, that God’s LOVE for you is CLEAR! I pray that you may know him more fully as he showers his GRACE upon us!

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ to live like us and to die for us. Your love has been made clear through your promise of a Savior to take away our sins and wash us clean! Continue to help us understand your presence in our lives and that our purpose is clear: to love and serve you, and share the Good News of what Jesus has done for us!
