Devotion – God’s Love is…Unfolding!

God reveals His love to us each day. And as we get to know Him better, His love is unfolding!

As humans we talk and listen to get to know one another better. We experience life together each day. Did you know it’s the same way with God? As we dig into Scripture, pray, and just experience this life given to us by God, we learn more about our relationship with Him and His love for us.

However, we often forget to focus on our relationship with God. He becomes an item on our to-do list instead of someone we really care about and truly want to get to know better. God loves us infinitely–so much so, that He sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. The Savior UNFOLDED and stretched His body across the cross to die for the weight of all our sins. God’s love UNFOLDED in the man Jesus and what He did for us!

Psalm 119, where this week’s devotion comes from, shares the joy felt in being in relationship with God, and also the pain of disobeying the law:

Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The UNFOLDING of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed. (Psalm 119:129-136 NIV)

The author uses words such as obey, understanding, mercy, direct, and teach to describe God…. He sounds pretty amazing to me! God desires to UNFOLD His love for us in our lives and share something new with us everyday!

Prayer –

Dear God, thank you for the love that you have revealed to us through your son, Jesus Christ. I pray that you help us to desire to know you more and UNFOLD your love upon us each day in your Word, and through our prayers and petitions.
