Devotion: God’s Love is…Humble

“Make me a servant, humble and meek.
Lord let me lift up those who are weak.
And may the prayer of my heart always be:
Make me a servant, make me a servant,
Make me a servant, today.”

A few years ago, I had a conversation with a DCE who was working in Louisiana with hurrican victims. I still remember bits and pieces of the conversation. It was a time when a lot of people were hurting and in need, and one of the things he said to me was, as we prepare to go down there in the spring, “to come with humble hearts.” He said this several times, and it reminded me of the song lyrics above.”

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

God lifts us up from the shadowy darkness of sin in this life, and for the people down south at the time of that hurricane, and for all who serve, we must come with humble hearts. Humbly, Christ came into this world, to die for our sins and raise us up again! What a humbling experience!

Prayer–Dear God, thank you for sending your Son to humble Himself before man and die for the sin of the world. We ask you to guide us in leading humble lives and continue to serve you in our words and deeds.
