Caring Connections: Supporting Peers through Christ

Our world is a broken place. Our solutions may leave us brokenhearted, angry, anxious, or depressed. God has called us to love those around us with His love so that we can share redemption and hope in Jesus. With a combination of both practical skills and theology, participants will grow in their ability to build caring connections with peers who need support.

Each one of the four sessions has an instructional video. The resources are not only written for youth, but they are intended to be led by youth. There is both a leaders guide and a participant guide. The leader guide walks teens through the process of facilitating the training. It gives detailed instructions to help teens effectively lead the training and develop their leadership skills.

Session 1: Why Do We Care for Those Who Are Struggling?
Session 2: Basic Skills for Caring
Session 3: Caring for Christian Friends
Session 4: Caring for Non-Christian Friends

This curriculum is designed to fit into the 7 Practices of Healthy Youth Ministry. This includes helping each young person…

  • Reach out to their neighbor in word and deed to love and share the Good News of Jesus.
  • Seek to be warm, challenging, and grace-filled to their community and peers.
  • Build relationships with those different than themselves and navigate disagreements in a humble loving way

While this curriculum focuses on these aspects of the 7 Practices, previous curricula have covered the other outcomes. We recognize that all the practices are vital to the discipleship of young people and should be covered regularly throughout the high school years.
