Watch the music video for Jason Gray’s song “Remind Me Who I Am.” You can find the video online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSIVjjY8Ou8. After watching, discuss the video using the following questions. (If you have a larger group, it may be helpful to break into groups of 5-8 for discussion.)

The people in the video were holding cardboard signs. Name as many of the signs as you can remember.

As you watched the video, what do you think was the strongest image you saw?

What was the change the video was trying to show?

The signs were labels that people are given. What are some of the negative labels you’ve been given? Have you given any to yourself?

What does it mean to know that your new label–your new sign because of Jesus–is “beloved”?

What are some Bible verses you know which can help you remember that you are loved by God?

Allow the group to come up with as many as they can. Then offer one or more of these verses as well:

  • Romans 5:6-8
  • Matthew 11:28-30
  • Titus 3:3-6

Finally, consider making one of these verses a “take home.” Here are a couple “take home” ideas:

1. Print a verse on a card and encourage youth to keep it someplace where they’ll see it every day and be reminded of the love God has for them. This could be on a dresser, taped to a mirror, the dashboard of their car or they could snap a picture and use it as the wallpaper on their phones.

2. Order silicone bracelets with one of the Scripture references debossed on them.

3. Have youth come up with 1-2 people who might need a reminder that they are loved by God. Have materials to make cards and include these Bible verses or some of the verses the youth came up with. Cards could be for friends, people in your community or people in the news. Deliver the cards or mail them if delivery is not practical.
