How many times a day do you look in the mirror? Once, twice…five or six times? When you spend a few moments looking at your reflection, what do you see? Do you like it? Maybe you see some physical attribute you wish you could change–a smaller nose or less freckles. Maybe you see eyes that have seen tremendous hurt or a mouth that tends to put others down instead of building them up. Regardless, when most of us look at ourselves in the mirror, we really don’t like what’s looking back at us.
Have you ever thought about what God sees when He looks at us? Does He see the ugly things that we do, the sins that separate us from Him? Do you shudder to think of what He sees?
It’s scary to think that God sees everything that’s wrong with us, everything we don’t like about ourselves. However, we are not condemned by that! Our shortcomings, mistakes, and undesirable qualities are completely covered by the blood shed for us on the cross by Jesus. When God looks at us, He sees Jesus. He sees us as His new creations–His beautiful children remade in His image by the blood of Jesus. We no longer are held captive by our faults. We are made new and are able to live as precious children in the eyes of the Lord! “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1-2).
