Devotion – God’s Love is…Not Muddy!

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” – Psalm 40:2

I heard a great message recently that compared our sin to mud. I can’t remember the exact words, but I do remember that God was definitely talking to me when he spoke through this persons words. Life is just plain muddy sometimes. For many of us, the sparkle of the Christmas and New Year seasons has worn off and we are well into another year of ministry and we all just seem to be dragging our feet. There’s no one to blame but ourselves. Our sin has got us all stuck in the mud, unable to get out, as hard as we try.

But just as the psalmist says, God lifts us out of the ‘mud and mire’ and gives us the firm foundation of eternal life! Only God, through His son Christ Jesus, can pull us out from the sin that entangles our lives and He has washed us clean with forgiveness through the bloodshed on the cross.

Undoubtedly, we will fall face first into the mud every day. It’s no fun, we get dirty and feel just plain gross, but God scoops us out of the depth of our despair and showers us with his grace, as if he was hosing us down! Thanks be to God for his LOVE and mercy that is NOT MUDDY, but the giver of life through our Lord and Savior!

I pray that this week that you will see the love, forgiveness and grace of God even if you feel like youre stuck in the mud!

Prayer

Dear God, Thank you for lifting us out of the mud and mire of our sin. Thank you for lifting us up, by sending your son, Jesus Christ to conquer death so that we may spend eternity with you! Keep us steadfast in your Word and command to help others come out of the mud pit that burdens them in this life!
