But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31

Christmas has passed and the New Year is here. Certainly all of us have so many gifts to be thankful for. Obviously, Christmas is a time where people show their generosity in the form of gifts. But, it is also a time where we reflect on all the gifts that God has given us. As I have reflected on my life, I think about how gracious God has been to me.

God has blessed me with so many great friends and family. As I look back on 2009, and all that happened in my life, I thank God that he placed in my life all my friends and family who helped me, supported me, and prayed for me throughout the year.

I also think of my church family. I believe that I have the best job in the world! It is such a pleasure and awesome responsibility working with the Lord’s kids. I am thankful for the opportunity I have and I am thankful for the church for which I serve. And, not only am I thankful for the gift of my church, but I am thankful for the gift of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS).

The LCMS is centered in the Gospel of Jesus. There are so many talented and dedicated church workers who enable so many others to serve, love, and praise God. The LCMS is not focused on ourselves, but rather on God’s people. One of the greatest examples of this is the National LCMS Youth Gathering.

There are many talented people planning and praying very hard for the upcoming Gathering. The Gathering is always a place where teenagers from all walks of life can come and serve, love, and praise God. It is truly a place where Jesus is preached and the Gospel message comes alive. In each of my five years at the Gathering, I have seen God work through many people, and He truly touches so many lives there- especially mine.

The Gathering is a wonderful gift from God, and I hope that you will be receiving this gift in New Orleans in July. If you aren’t signed up yet, please visit http://www.lcmsgathering.com and consider coming to the Gathering. Don’t miss out on this wonderful gift from God!

Blessings as you continue on the Road to the Gathering!
